Hi everyone, first time posting in this forum. Wanted to know if there is a simple solution other than buying a new laptop. I dropped a book on my Sony Vaio and the screen has a permenant spiderweb crack in it. The hard drive is working fine, but the screen is shot. I went to Best Buy and of course it wasn't covered under warranty. The Geek Squad guy told me "an optimistic view of the a new screen would be $500". At that price I would just buy a new laptop. Before I resort to that option, can I get some feedback/suggestions from you all.

Thank You.

get in touch with Sony and see if you can RMA the screen. Ive had success with other companies where I was able to RMA things while they were "out of warranty"

its worth a shot

Laptop monitor warranties are the only warranty that I tell people to get, and for the exact reason that you mentioned-the replacement cost is rarely worth it for a laptop that is 1-2 years old.

It's worth a shot calling Sony, but you're most likely screwed.

While shopping for a replacement laptop, get a USB enclosure for you 2.5" hard drive, that is the only thing left that is worth something.

You can try going on Ebay and see if there is anyone parting one out? I have done this before and saved mucho $$....
